Line A & B

• Line A: Perrache - Laurent Bonnevay: Opened on 2 May 1978.
• Line B: Charpennes - Part-Dieu : opened on 2 May 1978.
• Line B: Part-Dieu - Jean-Macé : opened on 9 September 1981.
• Line B: Jean-Macé - Gerland : opened on 5 September 2000.
• Totally underground.
• Rubber-tyred trains.

Line C

A surprisingly short line, Métro line C began as a funicular between Croix-Paquet and Croix-Rousse, which opened on 12 April 1891 with a 17% grade. It closed on 3 July 1972. The upper station was rebuilt and the line became a rack railway in 1974, and was connected to the Métro line A at Hôtel-de-Ville on 2 May 1978, date of the opening of the Métro system. The line was extended from Croix-Rousse to Cuire without the rack system, on a disused railway ROW, on 8 December 1984. The rolling stock is 5 sets of two-car trains, able to run on both rack sections and non-rack sections, built by Alsthom in 1984. The line is underground, except in Croix-Paquet station and between Hénon and Cuire (Hénon is an underground station, Cuire is a ground-level station).

Ligne D

• Grange-Blanche - Gorge-de-Loup: Opened on 4 September 1991.
• Gare de Vénissieux - Grange-Blanche: Opened on 11 December 1992.
• Gare de Vaise - Gorge-de-Loup: Opened on 28 April 1997.
• Totally underground.
• Rubber-tyred trains.
• Automatic driverless trains (unlike other driverless train systems, there are no gates between the platforms and the trains, with no problems)
• Two-cars trains, high frequency.
