Vega's current work is focused on ritual objects and costumes for the traditional ceremonies at his temple, as well as more public work--including a recent mural commission from the New York Transit Authority--in which he "uses people in the community to depict African religious practices." ... "So my artwork, my creativity, gravitated very naturally to the service of those traditions.... the works became more important in that service than as objects with my name on it. But I do balance it by doing work that the world at large can relate to and maybe be influenced by. ... We're born with multiple birthrights and are influenced by everything that comes to us.
