Union Square Station · Opened 9/21/1924

Union Square station is part of a complex with three stations in it - one for the BMT Broadway Line, one for the IRT Lexington Line and one for the Canarsie Line. This station, too, is undergoing renovation. There is a single island platform, with numerous stairways and exits leading from it. There is one mezzanine attached to this station with entrances on the south side of 14th Street between Broadway and University Place. Other entrances around Union Square serve the other lines. The original mosaic band of sky blue, sea green, lime green and yellow ochre stands clearly visible above new green-bordered tile panels; Fall 1999 finds it scoured clean of seventy-five years' dirt and grime, the original colors and details shining brightly beneath a new coat of clear glaze and several missing and damaged pieces repaired and lovingly restored.
