116th Street Station · Opened 11/23/1904

The next three stations have extensive mosaics featuring Harlem history and famous African-Americans. Each station has been fully renovated as part of the 1998 Lenox Avenue subway reconstruction project. First up is 116th Street, with two wall platforms and platform-level fare control. There is no crossover or crossunder between the two sides. The reconstruction project has given this station all new wall tile and restored the "116" terra cotta wall cartouches.
