Broadway/East New York (Broadway Junction) Station · Opened 9/9/1884

Three tracks and two island platforms. This station complex (along with the BMT Canarsie Line station) is informally known as Broadway Junction. When originally built, two elevated lines (the Broadway and Fulton) converged and diverged at this large station complex, with the Canarsie line being added in 1928. There is also provision for track connections at each end to the East New York subway yard. It is in fact the largest elevated complex in the system, with many artifacts remaining of its former glory, including ironwork for the old Fulton El trackways which can be seen under the station. An interesting feature here is the mezzanine, which is above the Broadway line platforms. It is used to connect to the BMT Canarsie line and to exit to street level via two long escalators. At street level there is a transfer to the Fulton IND subway and the fare control area. The upper mezzanine extends most of the length of the station and is made of concrete, resembling the style of the mezzanines on the #7 Flushing line. Windows were once present and are now cemented over. There is an old, traditional mezzanine, now closed, at the south end. It is currently used by flagging operations.
