While trying to connect the U2 with the SDs, this was the only combination that CT found that could work (remember, some of the U2s were built in 1979, the SDs came into service in 2001). Only the U2-DCs worked, and now cars 2101 and 2102 usually enslave one SD-160 between them in 3-car consists.
