National Tramway Museum

Our journey visiting preserved railroads of England and Wales began at the National Tramway Museum, in Crich, Derbyshire, about 50 miles south of Manchester. The museum tells the story of tramway transportation across the United Kingdom, and includes a wide variety of preserved trams, mostly double decker models. Each of the trams is in immaculate cosmetic shape; the tram cars look as if they were manufactured yesterday and never subject to the rainy English weather. Also included in the collection are an American trolley from the Third Avenue Railway System in New York City, and a PCC trolley from The Hague, Netherlands, which recently retired the last of their large PCC fleet.

The day of our visit they had four tram cars out on the road, Sheffield 510 (in Sheffield's Last Tram 1873-1960 livery), xx 180, Glasgow 22, and Berlin 3006 which has been modified for wheelchair accessibility.
