2001 Winners |
The first nycsubway.org photo contest is over! The
winners are below. It was very difficult to choose a winner in each
category due to the many good submissions (over 700 were received!). I
chose a winner in each of the original five categories plus a special
mention for best night photograph. (To be honest, many of the runners
up are also night photographs. Some good effort by the photographers
there!) The winners in each category will get to select their prize in
the order of the categories presented below. By the way, all the
photos were resized to a width of around 640 pixels so that the size
of the image was not a factor in the judging.

Winner! Photo by BMdoobieW, Parkside
Avenue on the Brighton Line, 4/12/2001. It was very hard to choose a
winner. I had to balance out the great submissions with the rule that
a photographer can only win one prize. So my final selection for
winner was this photo of the Brighton Line on a dreary spring
morning. I think it struck me because of the dreary feeling over the
city in the past few months, but even through all that, there's still
the "lights on the front of the train"!
